Kala Sustainable Living
Overview
The client for this masterplan in La Guacima was committed to building the first truly sustainable community in Costa Rica but it also had to be financially viable. By placing a large, green open space at the center of the plan, we were able to increase the market value of the properties around it while offering the community a shared area to enjoy.

Concept
A communal building located in the central park offers a space for people to come and meet as they purchase goods from a nearby farm, while also housing a health center, sports facility and flexible spaces for a host of different group activities. This building disappears into the surrounding park, blurring the distinction between architecture and landscape.
